4 Important Blog Commenting Manners

Commenting on blogs is a great way to network and promote your own site. However, many blog commenters use this great means for personal gains such as spamming to endorse their non-niche related products and gain traffic from other blog commenters.

Today, blog owners are becoming wiser and stricter when it comes to moderating their blogs. Some dispatch these spammers by simply kicking and blocking them on their blog, and some resolve this by reporting the spammer by sending its URL and IP address in a formal complaint to higher authorities like Google and Yahoo! (or to the blog platform/ provider of the spammer) that may result to serious cyber criminal offense.

Here are some commenting manners to avoid such horrendous things:

Introduce yourself first and use a real name

If you are a first-time commenter on a blog, do introduce yourself first. Commenting without proper introduction is like spamming, too. In addition, some bloggers do not entertain anonymous comments and give no time to those who comment with fake and nonsense Web names. Pseudonyms in blogs are so last century, so it would be better if you use your real name. If you are still uncomfortable commenting with your real name, your company and blog name will do.

Do not use keywords in your comment name

Just last year, SEO practitioners had classified link dropping (or anchor linking) as a form of spamming because a lot of SEO companies and online sellers used it for over-promoting their companies and services.

Today, as these companies and online sellers find ways to use blog commenting for self-advertising, SEO experts have started banning comment name optimization (or putting links on comment names) by disabling links in their entire comment section. However, not all bloggers are as computer knowledgeable as this other bloggers and have the ability to do it on their sites. As a responsible commenter, avoid using keywords and links in your comment name to avoid being kicked out or blocked by blog owners.

Comment with relevance

Being funny and comical in comments is fine, but being overly nonsense and gibberish is not. Always remember to comment with relevance to the post’s topic and never start a conversation that would lead to nothing.

Always comment with a goal to contribute something beneficial to the conversation and to the entire blog. Do not waste your time writing cliché posts like “Great Post!” and “Nice Post!” because no one loves those on their blogs. On the other hand, do not get too emotional or excessively personal. If no one agrees with your idea, then move on!

Treat other blogs as you would your own blog; respect the blog owner and other commenters.

In addition, always treat other blogs as you want yours to be treated; adhere to the blogger’s rules and always practice civility by respecting the other participating commenter’s idea.
