Google has got a lot of people upset, not the least of which are web surfers trying to find good content while searching on the Internet. Lately, Google shows a lot of spammy results in the top 3-4 pages for many searches. Blekko is one of the newest search engines, after having been in development for a number of years. It is now ready for beta testers and comes with some great features for users. Here are five of the best features of the Blekko search engine:
Slashtags are one of the biggest new features and have been praised by lot of twitter users. This feature makes the search engine much more effective. The /date and /relevancy slashtags are the most used ones as they are found under the search box on the search engine results page. There are also other slashtags found on the pages such as /image, /video, /shop and so on. This helps users to save extra clicking, as the tags are used as the search type.
This is a great feature and comes in the form of a button titled “spam”. There are now many bad results which get returned during a search, and this feature lets users click the button and never have to see the results from that website again. The only downside of this is if users are too judgmental and then later want to see those domains again, but this feature is very helpful overall.
The preferences are currently able to let users display the data that they want to see in each search result. This allows for a good deal of customization and provides much more useable and accurate search results. In other words, Blekko offers users much more effective searches than those which can be found in other search engines.
Blekko announced its privacy settings and showed it is more transparent than Google. Personal information (like IP addresses) will now be retained for a maximum of 48 hours. This is great news for users, when compared to the 18-month policy employed by Google (and Yahoo), and the 6-month policy employed by Bing.
Blekko offers users a lot of stats upfront, such as the type of stats that are only available via Google Webmaster Tools in Google. As we have discussed, the big feature, “slashtag search” allows you to use the slashtag key (/) to refine your search further.
Overall, there are new features that will be of benefit to many search engine users. You can find a lot more information about websites and modify which tools you would like to see in your search results.
