    Many years ago I worked for a local paper and we had an annual competition for the most boring press release. One year it was won by a firm of solicitors who sent out a release about a new photocopier, complete with a statement from one of the partners about how much better it was than their previous one. It was bordering on comic genius and, in the internet era, would probably have been published and gone viral. I suppose that’s anti-marketing.

    One of the main problems with boring niches is low levels of engagement. I’ve often seen really good content with no comments or shares at all. Some industries lend themselves to social media while others struggle.
