Analyze Your Site with Google “Text Only” Cache

Google cache is an awesome way to analyze the page. With it you can see:

  • If the page elements are correctly ordered;
  • How effectively you use H-headings (H1 – H2 tags);
  • How images are interpreted;
  • If links are visible;
  • Unlinked content versus linked content proportion, etc

To use and access Google’s “Text only” cache, I recommend using these two Greasemonekey plugins:

  • Google Cache Continue Redux: as you know, all links from Google’s cache bring you back to the site itself – this plugin will let you browse the site’s cache by adding yellow “cache” links:

And how do you use Google’s cache to analyze the site on-page SEO? Please share!

    I use the Google Cache Text version to demonstrate what the Google spiders are seeing. It is a most graphic way from an authoritative source to show the danger of over-use of Flash and images that bear no ALT text. Most people are critically concerned by what the Google search process is seeing on their website.

    Use Google text cache to check whether cloaking has been applied for a particular page, very useful when being approached for links….

    Very good add, thanks a lot!

    This is a great tip, I frequently use the cache to see if there are any cloaking methods being implemented and also the index date of the page itself.

    On a side note, you could perhaps use the SEOmoz Crawl test tool as well.

    Another great way to supplement this “spiderview” is SEOmoz’s term extractor which shows you what terms spiders are pulling out by placement, not just keyword density. http://www.seomoz.org/term-extractor

    I just started to use the Term extractor tool and it is great. However there is a lot of noise in terms of how you shouldn’t really be going after keyword density.

    Google can’t read text on images.

    With Google’s flash indexing algorithm, web designers can expect improved visibility of their published Flash content, and you can expect to see better search results and snippets.

    Yes, Google is working on putting this availability in for flash.

    Adobe actually has some good information up as well.
