Blog Directory Links : List Your Blog
Launching a new blog is a lot of fun, and so is building links to it. I have written about blog directories in the past, and used to own one, and honestly have been very shocked about how bad the quality has gotten with some of the blogosphere’s first directories. That being said, here is a round up of some of the top resources to submit site to.
Submitting your blog to an established human edited blog directory has many benefits besides additional exposure. Proper link building is a critical component of launching a new blog or helping grow an established blog and submitting to a respected blog directory helps give credibility to your blog from the perspective of search engines.
How do you tell if a Blog Directory is credible?
The key component in directory submission of any kind is that all listings are verified by a human before going live. By adding this critical component of editorial integrity quality directories help distinguish themselves from the herd. Many sites that claim to be directories are really just link farms.
- If there is no editorial integrity how will they monitor the quality of the blogs listed in the directory?
- Why should the engines consider it a positive vote from the site if anyone can get listed submitting any type of site?
- Do you want your blog listed on a page that links to potentially bad neighborhoods, made for adsense blogs or inappropriate content?
What is a Quality Blog Directory?
A quality blog directory monitors each submission and grants access or denies based on criteria of the blog worthiness.
There is often a nominal fee charged for this service which covers the time of the editor to properly review a submission. This is what separates and makes directories such as BOTW.org, Yahoo and Business.com so special.
Getting listed in those directories tells the engines that the listing is spam free and human edited; this increases the trust associated with the site being submitted. Without this component the directory becomes a free for all link farm. What’s the value in being listed somewhere if they’ll list anything? There is none.

Delight Blogs is a quality blog directory that manually reviews all submissions before they go live. It has been around a long time and continues to be one of the few blog directories that maintains a respectable spam free database.
EatonWeb maintains a strong select inclusion blog directory that charges a nominal fee for review. This is a well established blog directory that maintains strict editorial integrity like the others listed on this page.
Blog Announce is another human edited blog directory that has been around for quite sometime and continues to selectively list blogs that meet their criteria. It’s a simple directory that makes submitting and finding blogs easy and hassle free. They also charge a nominal fee for the time required to ensure all listings meet the grade.

DMOZ being the most valuable directory (for the time being) is still worth submitting to.
To get in, you do need to use some mental “elbow grease”.
I twittered the editor of the section I was submitting to and got in within a MONTH last year.

Last year, during the Google Tricks and Treats webinar, they (Google) said that directories would lose their “power of link love spreading” as time goes by – not with these words, of course.
It just happened something like Google removing a “best practice” such as “submit your site to trusted directories” from its guidelines.
I don’t remember exactly, but the overall message is that directories will no longer be a valuable link source over time.
However, directories are still good, so, nice listing Loren! =)

Submitting to those blogs directories is worth like $100 USD. I think it´s a fair ammount to pay to get your blog listed and get all the benefits Loren mentions in this post (If you compare it to the $300 USD you must pay to get listed in the Yahoo Directory, or the $250USD to be in Business.com, although those aren´t exclusively for blogs, you can keep that numbers as reference)
I´d say that it could be specially useful for new blogs …

Thanks for the list. I like Bloggeries the best and they have a good forum too. I did want to mention that there are some free blog directories that are worth the time. I know that directory I own is set at free right now to build momentum and I will charge eventually. Because it is free does not mean that it is not high quality or human edited. Even if it starts off as no PR, I am expecting at least PR3 on the next update

Loren, Not trying to get a free plug but he is correct that there are at least a dozen free directories worth submitting to.
topofblogs.com, bloggapedia.com, blogs.con – just to name a few.
However, the directories you’ve mentioned in this article are all exceptional and worth paying the submission price for, especially Bloggeries because Rob, the owner of Bloggeris is a very helpful person.

Enjoyed reading your post. All your points about the directories are very good. Ideally you want your blog in a human edited directory which attempts to keep only quality content blogs listed.

What about Paid Blog Directory? They are first result in Google for the phrase: paid blog directory, but they seem pretty new, they stats display

Only 12 active links (looks like it is directory under construction) but first search result? The phrase is exact as the domain, but consist only of generic keywords. Weird.
