Cross Over to the Dark Side: Using the 7 Deadly Sins to Give your Blog a Boost
Playing nicely when it comes to building relationships and establishing a name for yourself in the blogging world is all well and good, but to get ahead of the game the gloves sometimes need to come off. Now I’m not saying that any black hat methods are the right route to go down, but there are a few ways you can utilise the 7 deadly sins to keep your blog alive.
Pride
Being proud of the blog you have created is incredibly important when it comes to getting it out into the blogosphere successfully; after all, if you don’t believe your blog is the best thing since sliced bread then why should anybody else? Let pride shine through in each and every piece of content you add but be careful as there is a fine line between pride and arrogance.
Envy
Whatever industry your blog falls within, whether it is a business related blog or simply a social platform for hobbies and interests, there will most likely be THE blog you want to be as successful as. Being envious of that page rank 7 blog with the hoard of loyal followers is not necessarily a bad thing as it will push you to work even harder in order to start reaping the same benefits from your own online offering.
Gluttony
Taking anything to an extreme, whether it is food and drink or spending excessive amounts of cash is very rarely a smart move, but being extravagant from time to time can certainly make people sit up and take notice of what you have to say. A little bit of luxury such as an exuberant and carefully designed background coupled with delicious yet small portions of content will leave readers suitably satisfied rather than stuffed.
Lust
Defined as an excessive craving for pleasures of the body, let’s keep our minds on what could be considered the body of your blog; the content. Whilst the background and styling form the skeleton, your content fills the frame. If you are lusting after another’s carefully crafted content, why not ask them if they would like to create a unique post for you? Offer them a link of course and you could be fulfilling your desire by showcasing their content in just a few days through the medium of guest blogging.
Wrath
The online world is full of wrath, just clicking through comments and feedback on a few sites will quickly confirm this. Throwing the computer out of the window and smashing up the desk is hardly productive, but if something has angered you then bottling it up is not much better as it can manifest itself in other more destructive ways. If something or someone has irritated you, for instance your content has been used on another’s site and passed off as their own, be constructive in your criticism and follow all procedures to ensure the lesson is learnt by the offender and you emerge as the champion.
Greed
As much as most will deny they are greedy, very few could honestly say that they are happy with their lot. The desire for material goods and additional wealth is the driving force behind many of our daily actions so take the time to think about the things your readers may be greedy for and give them something that gets them one step closer to it. Using advertising on your blog not only helps to gain additional funds but also puts your reader in touch with the products and services they could be hankering after.
Sloth
Working all hours to keep your blog fresh and exciting sometimes has the opposite effect as you can lose sight of your original purpose and end up creating rehashed content that adds little value to the site. Indulge in a little bit of nothing every now and again and return to the computer refreshed; use this 7th deadly sin sparingly as shunning the workload for too long could dupe readers into thinking you can’t be bothered and those seemingly loyal followers can quickly ditch you in favour of another.
From pride to envy, taking a little inspiration from the 7 deadly sins might give your blog the boost it needs to start gathering momentum and making you money. Indulge in a little sinful activity this winter and revel in the results it could bring.
