Don’t Write off a Non-Anchor Based Link
*The following (short but valid) tip is by Nick LeRoy*
Too many people focus on anchor text when they seek out linking opportunities. Yes a do follow keyword related anchor text is the best, however it’s important to not overlook other linking opportunities.
Specifically I would like to address URL based links. These links typically don’t rocket your site to #1 but they can sometimes be a source of great authority.
Imagine if the New York times was willing to link to one of your content pieces. Would you consider this link a dud just because it doesn’t include your keyword? No way! This link, all though URL based will carry a lot of site authority credit and in return will increase your websites authority. High site authority can help make it easier to rank for keywords.
Yes – Anchor texts are the best, but you won’t see my turning down URL based links from authoritative sites. Make sure you keep this in consideration the next time you consider turning down a link to your site.

Wow! What great advice!
With this, are referring to if an article listed Yourcompany.com (which just links to your site) but doesn’t use anchor text to describe the content on your site?
If so, then yes, I’d highly agree with this. Wonder how often this sort of thing is turned down?
If not, then I’m probably just slow on the uptake.
Indie – you are right. When i refer to URL link im specifically talking about a http://www.google.com type link Instead of Google.
Hope you enjoyed the tip!
Since Google undoubtedly has a summary measure of the total web page content for the page on which this URL link is placed, I’m sure that will influence how the URL is indexed. That also includes the URL of the page itself, which I’m sure is factored in as well. This is just common sense but hopefully the algorithms do not ignore the obvious.
From where I come from a link is a link, whether it comes from a site that is not visited often or in this case an authoritative site which receives a ton of traffic. My feeling is that a lot of times we lose track of the purpose of web traffic and that all too often we focus so much on seo, sem, do follow and no follow that we forget about just trying to get people to visit the site we put together. I’ll take a link from another site anytime whether it’s anchor text based or not. All it takes is a click from one person and there you have it.. a visitor.
I think there are certain types of links you should go after as your website SEO continues to build. At first, get any link possible to build traffic (like Registernuke points out). As your SEO skillset builds, consider more developed anchor text and SEO techniques. It’s all about expectations meeting ability.
You know I get just plan URL links to my site just for diversification. I mean how natural is it that every site that links to your site is going to use an anchor text link. That being said I believe anchor text links are MUCH more powerful for SEO then URL links.
‘Naked Backlinks’ (non anchored) are more easy to get, and are delivering PR juice to your site, thus increasing its authority and pagerank and ultimately the rankings.
So 500 anchored backlinks + 500 ‘naked’ backlinks
is better than just 500 anchored backlinks
Yeah I totally agree with you on this one.

Great advice. Do follow keywords are the best, it contributes big difference to your site. URL links are the same way too, all in all they are all good for me and I’ve been using it in a couple of months ago. Thanks for sharing this great advice I truly appreciate it.
Excellent advice. Dofollow links are always the best for me, it is a good way of getting your free url links from your sites. This is great information and I learn a lot of things. Thanks much!
