Event Blogging As A Link Building Technique

As we all know, link building is a huge part of search engine optimization and also one of the hardest things to do right. With so many techniques and search engine algorithms changing frequently, sometimes it is hard to come up with the right strategy. However, if you incorporate different highly effective techniques in your overall strategy, you will increase its efficiency to the maximum.

A technique that I have discovered recently is event blogging. For those who are wondering what that means, event blogging is blogging about a certain event. There are a couple of important things you should consider about that link building technique:

  1. Pre-event – make sure you do your research before the event occurs. Find out who else is writing about the event. This is particularly important because the persons writing about the even before it has happened are most likely to do a follow-up after that. Make a list of the people or sites and blogs promoting it.
  2. Make it unique – the big question here is how to make your recap of the event unique so that it stands out. If only you are writing about it, then you have nothing to worry about. However, if more people are doing recaps, you should try a little bit harder. A good idea is to have a unique asset such as a photo, video or an interview with one of the attendees that other people don’t have. You can also include all the recaps of the event in yours and unite all the information about it in your post.
  3. Presentation – presenting your content in different ways is a great technique. If you think about it, you have only been to this one event but that doesn’t mean you should only write one post about it. You can write as many as you want and still make them unique. Use different approaches to reach different audiences.
  4. Post-event – make sure you act fast after the event and submit your content because people are most likely to read about it right after it has finished. Also, you need to publish your post before everyone else so they can find your content and link to it. Almost no one will be willing to edit their post just so they can link back to you if you are too late.

Tips and advices

  • Don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask for links. Most of the times people won’t link to you just because they don’t even know your content exists.
  • You can also try to write your post in a not so positive way. For example you can say what could have been done better at the event, but since that is kind of risky, try to stay on the positive side.

Event blogging is really a great way to get nice and organic links and improve your link building campaign. All you need is some creativity to write the best recap you can and get the links rolling in.

This is a very timely post for me. I am trying to organize a small online business Q&A about SEO.

Does anyone know of an online service that is (hopefully free) easy to implement. Some of the desktop sharing sites are too complicated for users to attend. Certainly a small mom and pop store with a small website.
