Focusing on Just A Single Traffic Source Can Hold Back Your SEO Efforts

One of the largest mistakes made by many businesses is focusing just on Google for their search engine optimization efforts. It is likely in your best interest to try to find a way to rank in other search engines as well, in an effort to receive visitors from the search engines. Although they are often discounted, there is a large amount of traffic that comes from Bing and Yahoo that can be used to bolster your online efforts. A few of the reasons why you should consider focusing your efforts on other search engines and avenues for traffic, while still taking Google into consideration include:

Well Rounded

You certainly want your traffic to be well-rounded. If all of your traffic is coming from one single source, it is going to be very hard for you to be able to recover, if your site falls in the search engine rankings. You do not want to put all of your eggs in one basket so to speak, so having a well-rounded, overall approach to garnering traffic will definitely be in your best interest. You should try to get traffic from all of the major search engines, as well as other traffic sources so you do not have to place all of your eggs in one basket.

Visitor Demographics

Although the demographics across some of the more popular search engines and websites are going to be quite solid, you are going to find that visitor demographics will be more well-rounded if you are getting traffic from multiple different sources. Anyone that has done in the large amount of search engine optimization knows that they see their demographics change when they add new keywords into the mix, and are able to rank for keywords that they were not able to previously. Visitor demographics is another thing that you should be split testing in your search engine optimization efforts, in an effort to ensure that you are targeting the right individuals. It can also help you with your paid advertising as well, when you know which demographics typically convert the best on the backend for you.

More Potential For Growth

Targetting more sources of traffic can also give you more potential for growth. Although on search engines you might be going after one large keyword, by creating a YouTube account, and marketing to individuals on YouTube you have created a new channel in which you can garner a lot of visitors to your website. By targeting more than one platform, you will find a large potential for growth that could help you to grow your following overall.

It is important that every website owner find more targets for traffic, in order to increase their overall potential for growth, have a well-rounded following, and have more visitor demographics in which to analyze for profitability. By taking your time, improperly analyzing which website you would like to target for this growth, you can increase your bottom line and overall profitability of your business.

A very good article that hits close to home for me. I did an Alexa search for my main keyword the other day and was number 51, versus 4 on Google. I happen to be an Alexa Pro subscriber and have been registered with them for over a year. I spoke with one of the managers there and he is going to try to find out why I rank so low. I look forward to some insight so I can tweak my SEO campaign. I think I had all my eggs in the Google basket and was overlooking all the others.
