Getting Link from Discussion Forums – Old but May Still Work

What Are Discussion Forums?

Discussion forums are websites where individuals who share a common hobby, idea, or viewpoint, can gather to exchange ideas. There are numerous discussion forums in just about every topic under the sun. Normally, members of the forum can include various pieces of their contact information, including a website URL that they own. Most discussion forums allow members to have a “signature file.” This is a snippet of code that is placed after every post made by that member. Many great discussion forums still allow “dofollow” links for established users (those who have participated throughout the forums to give value)

The signature file allows participants to  leave a link back to their digital property or properties; very often it lets you leave a keyword-rich link.

Finding Niche Related Discussion Forums

Fortunately for internet marketers, finding relevant discussion forums is quite easy. Google is always head of the game, and they provide a very convenient way for individuals to find countless available discussion forums for any topic needed. The process is incredibly simple. Individuals need to do a normal search on Google’s search box. From the results pages that show up, on the left or right depending on which country version of Google being used, there will be a list of further options including Images, Videos, News, Shopping and Places. On that list is also the option called “Discussions.” Clicking this link will open up Google Discussion Search function and also bring up the top-ranked discussion forums for the keyword initially being searched for.

Fresh Forum Content

Finding discussion forums is not a challenge. What could be slightly more difficult in writing fresh and informative content to post on these discussion forums. After registering with a few discussion forums and setting up the signature files correctly, focusing on quality content creation is next. Quality matters because poorly-written forum posts rarely get responded to. On the other hand, content that is valuable and helpful gets plenty of traffic from members of the forum. Keep in mind that the signature file is being automatically placed at the bottom of these posts.

Link building using discussion forums is effective only when done properly. Spamming forums with poorly-written posts with little value will do nothing more than get a person banned from those discussion forums. Although using discussion forums correctly does take a little more effort than other means of marketing, the links created can last a long time and be incredibly beneficial to SEO and backlinking. Not to mention the fact that the people seeing those links are already interested in the topic that the site or blog being marketed is in.

I is probably a way to get good links, but it depends on the forum quality. I think good moderated relevant forum is best. But what kind of links are best, a forum profile link, or lots of signature links?
Witch forum is the best in the webmaster niche?

I worry that posting in forums will make the people in them resentful. Sort of..Hey we come here to talk about our interests not get a sales pitch

You’re exactly correct. It does create resentment because it’s not genuine.

I’m the owner of a very large computer and gaming discussion forum, and involved in a larger community of forum owners, and believe me, every single one of us without exception feels that this is nothing but spam. We have a delete-on-sight, no exceptions policy to signature spam.

You’re not at all genuinely interested in discussing our topics if you’re just there to spam for backlinks. This is an unethical and undesirable tactic.

Using forums for backlinking is very underrated but very effective if the forum have a great page rank. It’s definitely worth looking into.

Yes it is an old method but it still works a lot. Having pre set topics which you can write on can prevent you from not having the words for a content to post on these forums. The readership you get from forums gets you target traffic because there people have the same interests.
