High Quality Link Building Using Dmoz / Google Directory
*The following guest tip was provided by Umair Asif*
Links are an important part of SEO strategy. While, most of us are already aware of its significance, it sometimes gets difficult to acquire a list of high quality websites related to our industry. Tweaking Google directory listings may resolve this problem.
By default, Google directory offers listings based on Page Rank, but these groupings may not include every major website. For example, if someone runs an antique furniture shop and wants to look for top ranking websites in categories related to antique furniture, they may locate most websites but still miss a few important ones. In order to tackle this problem, it is wise to query for your desired term in the Google directory which automatically provide a list of all related categories where websites pertinent to your intended query may reside.
Here is a screen shot of a typical query for antique furniture. Notice how related websites may reside in different categories. By clicking on each category, webmasters can cherry pick the highest rank websites in their industry. Also, these categories may provide additional links.

To evaluate the significance of finding high quality links by using this technique, consider 20th link for the query on antique furniture. As of writing, it is Recreation > Antique > Directories. Some of the directories listed under this category are high ranking websites that may be important to link building from an antique supplier’s perspective. Without querying and looking past the first page, it would be difficult to guess that there are relevant high ranking pages hidden under Recreation category.

Hi,
You should rewrite the title of your article: “High Quality Link Building Using Dmoz Directory”
Very nice article. Link building is not an easy task indeed. You may contact several webmasters but very few will respond positively.

Swapping links is not effective just because of the time and effort it takes as well as a host of other reasons.
For link popularity you are better off spending time creating social profiles, submitting online press releases, white papers, marketing articles, posting relevant useful replies on forums, starting a blog on a different domain and creating anchor links within each post back to your sites pages, finding related niche directories and the best of all writing high quality informative, educational and useful content for your web pages so other sites will link to you without even asking them to.
Submitting different pages of your site to different categories within DMOZ is very useful as far as this is concerned.

Dmoz, in my humble opinion, is dying. Rarely do they update their area where I live in Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this way. After 5 years of submitting my sites, I realized I was wasting my time. Doug’s suggestions are much better than wasting any effort on Dmoz.
Good arguments! Actually, webmasters can also use this search technique to locate high quality directories, web pages and relevant blogs where they can post their articles/links.
I search and recently came across your blog and have been reading along. It was wonderful blog. I will give free hit of your site with your article.

Dmoz has become a complete joke. I have even submitted top quality, trused, brand sites and nothing happens.
Recently I just went through the editor process and found that it is much easier to become an editor than it is to just get listed. Try applying!
Thanks Again for the tips… real quick though why is this link I’ve posted above showing up so much for my back link checker it is showing for a ton of pages and not just one.
Powerlifting
Dmoz didn’t confirmed my application.
As I new in the business, I want really thank you for your blog and provided informations to learn understanding (don`t know if one can understand all) and giving tips too. I hope in future to get visitors too on my site(s).
Thanks a lot!
It’s good way of link building. I’ll try this strategy.
This is an interesting and helpful post… I work for a digital media company and we offer services including web design applications, SEO/digital marketing, and user interface web design. We’ve had trouble recently getting indexed for pages deeper within our site and it’s been a mystery as to why this is, despite our efforts to counter it. Personally I am not familiar with how our html is structured in wordpress, but i passed this on to one of our developers who mentioned that we were not doing what was suggested above; however, he said that we have a wordpress plug in that he thought was taking care of this issue. Does anyone have any feedback on that, or has anyone been experiencing a similar issue with deep links? I’ve found the same problem happening for some of our clients as well.
Oops– the second part of the above post, from the part about our wordpress plug in foward, was meant to be posted on the pagination blog–>http://dailyseotip.com/possible-help-with-pagination-issue-relnext/485/comment-page-1/#comment-3588. Please excuse my mistake!
Nice article.
I was wondering, if there are ways to download google directory data as one can download dmoz dump??
In this post you have shared some very important and key elements of quality content that normally no one notices.
Some interesting points but perhaps dmoz is dying. Getting links to http://www.classicroses.co.uk/products/roses/ can be hard but I suspect that press releases etc as per Doug’s post are the best idea.
