How To Get Backlinks With Index Driver Sites
*The guest tip is by Daniel McGonagle who writes about SEO and link building at LinkVanaReviews*
Yes, Virginia, you can get backlinks with Index Drivers sites!
Index driver sites are websites whose main goal is to increase the indexing power of your content. It can also be used to index other people’s content, too.
Later on in this post you’ll see why you might want to index other people’s content in addition to your own.
How does an Index Driver site work?
- The easiest way to create an index driver site is to use WordPress and some aggregation plugins for RSS feed like WP O Matic , FeedWordPress and a slew of others.
- You set up your blog to pull RSS feeds from your sites or other sites
- Then you write quick little introductory snippets explaining the content you’ve “scraped”
- At end of intro to the source content, you link to the source of the content
NOTE: With WP O Matic, you have the option of letting other site owners that you’ve ping-ed them or trackback-ed them and this usually results in a link back from the source site when they leave the pingback or trackback up on their site in comments area.
How does this help get other site URLs “better indexed”
If you have a site like this posting regularly, then the spiders should be coming to the site frequently, which means it’s getting new content indexed rather quickly. Therefore, if this site is getting spidered frequently, then its links to other sites will get picked up frequently, too.
This means backlinks from this “index driver” site will get noticed sooner rather than later.
But aside from the linking accreditation, the real value to this is the indexing power. When you blog and ping you usually get indexed pretty quickly, but if you blog and ping AND get linked to from another site, that provides longer lasting indexing for your URLS.
I like to use Delicious Links and Twitter Link Wheels to add value and leveraging power to my Index Driver sites/mechanism.
How To Get External Backlinks from other sites with your index driver site?
If you scrape enough feeds and rewrite their content while always sourcing them and linking to them, your semi-automated blog will become a resource in and of itself. Good resources get linked to, plain and simple.
But on a more realistic note, you will at least get some backlinks via trackbacks that people publish on their sites when you link to them. Over time this adds up too. Also, as mentioned above, you want to add Delicious, Twitter, and various other syndication channels into the mix here to increase content exposure and indexing power.

I do not understand why you guide people to build the link by link spam

Jack, this is exactly what Twitter does, but to a lesser degree and offering less value. With Twitter you have short snippets that link to many different things on people’s Twitter profiles.
After posting enough goo dlinks to articles, resource, information etc… people follow you, because you/your profile, your website became a resource they liked and wanted more form.
If you don’t understand how it works and need more clarification on the process, I can write a follow up post for you.
Thanks,
Dan
P.S. If Ann didn’t think this was top quality information she wouldn’t have published it on this blog…so trust her, then trust me this works
you should submit to digg, i think better

Digg is still worth submitting to, but Sphinn would give you better results if your content being bookmarked was of interest to Sphinn-ers.
Other than that, Stumbleupon, Technorati, Reddit Newsvine are all just as good if not better than Digg for bookmarking.
One thing to point out here, when you target groups and sites better with your bookmarking you get better results.
If you’re into SEO, marketing or link building then Sphinn is where you need to hang out, because those people are bookmarking (Sphinning) your content, reading it and you get a higher number of “real” bookmarks when you target the right audiences.
Same thing goes for doing directory submissions, the more targeted you are with your category election, the more link juice you get from those sub-directory listings.
Thanks,
Dan
Now that is an extremely helpful blog post. I’ve been wrestling with good solutions for getting stuff indexed consistently and quickly. This really helps coalesce my thinking.
Index Driver sites? I’m pretty sure these have been known as splogs for quite a while now (SPAM blogs).
Not the whitest linkbuilding tip and certainly worth pointing out that you should be cautious using this.
I had a feeling that people would take this the wrong way when scraping and automation were introduced…
SPLOGs don’t add value to the Internet, they’re just regurgitated duplicate content with extremely low time-spent-on-site and # of page views per visitor stats.
Ever piece of content on these index drive sites are unique editorialized additions to the web adding value in some fashion, by pointing out (linking to) a good article, or by being a portal through which good content can be found.
Index driver sites are no different than Google News, or Twitter except Index Driver sites’ content will be 100% unique, not ReTweets (Twitter = 90% of Tweets are bots, 10% of users make up 90% of Tweets)or sourced content like Google News.
Thanks for your feedback,
Dan
A helpful resource to keep in mind for the indexed sites to get backlinks. Ever piece of content on these index drive sites are unique editorialized additions to the web adding value in some fashion, by pointing out (linking to) a good article, or by being a portal through which good content can be found. Really a good stuff.
Interesting solution.
Another way to improve indexation is to create a blog on the site itself. You just need to post regularly. In the end, there will be much more relevant content than “splogs” and will add much more link value to the site itself, improving its indexation too.

Hi Frank, it’s unfortunate that people are thinking of these as splogs though….
These aren’t splogs.
They’re set up in pretty much the same ways that splogs are, but the main difference is they are not 100% automated, are not dupe content filled sites, and truly do add value to the ‘net.
If you were referring to appending a blog to a main site for better indexing of new content, then yes, you could use WP O Matic for that by having (appended) blog content that’s getting pulled in linking to certain URLS on main site automatically.
So yes, an appended blog would help for sure…and an even better way to do this would be to create a separate domain and blog and if possible put it on a separate hosting platform, IP address etc…
Thanks,
Dan
Can you give some examples of good index driver sites (effective and not just spam)? Thanks!
Hi, if you Google the title of this post you’ll see my Index Driver site on page 1. Hint: Increase Website Traffic Tips
Below sphinn, topsy and above some forum thread/site that copied this post verbatim and posted it there w/ or w/o permission I do not know.
Thanks,

P.S. My index driver site mentioned above is still a work in progress. Since this method was something I first learned about from Dan Thies’ teaser videos for his Link Liberation course, and since I couldn’t get in the class before it filled up,I had to slog my way through figuring this out on my own.
To give Dan credit he made me aware of this, and several other ideas in his videos, which you can check out at http://www.linkliberation.com/ If/when you opt in you’ll be given access to a series of teaser videos that will make you think, and if you’re like me will create more questions you’ll want to find the answers to.
And the best way to find your answers is to experiment

I thought you might have gotten this from Dan. I’m surprised you weren’t able to get into the class – I know they kept it open later than originally intended. Dan’s a great guy (as is Leslie) and the class is a great class. One FYI for you – keep in mind using your site as index driver to point at links that go back to your site will result in a reciprocal link, which Google tends to reduce link value for.

Hi Eric, yes I got some of this put into my head by the “other” Dan.
Those teaser videos got my head spinning but I don’t feel like getting rushed into things so I ended up figuring most of this out on my own.
And yes, common sense to not do 3-way links or one-way link from index driver site to source site if my site is the source, but you can get away with a mix of both.
In my opinion, the real value is in strengthening the indexing of urls you want indexed, and to build a valuable resource (the index drive site) with minimal effort.
Thanks,
Dan

In my view quality article writing is the best way to promote a web now a days regarding back links, product info, services or any thing special that you are going to offer to world. Articles provide you exact target traffic which is actually back bone of your success. http://www.webston.net is plate form which provides you free articles submitting along with 300×250 Free ads banner space for your web. Submit your articles and get the right targeted traffic to your web and enjoy free advertisements offer.
Not too schooled in this stuff, I question if an index driver site leans in the spam category.
Interesting, will try!
Hi Daniel
I am preparing one SEO blog post (on serbian language) and I was searching google for “Index Driver Sites”. Your post is the only one that is indexed. That is the answer why SEO people dont know what Index Drivers are, and also where and when thay can use it.
I was using index driver sites, and I know what is the real power of index drivers. I build so many index driver sites and I know the concept.
What I want to say is that your concept is not so great (I belive that it’s working) but it can be much greather.
First of all, don’t use rss agregator plugins on index drivers. Use Guest Blog plugin, or Auto Blog plugin form Unique Article Wizard. You dont need duplicated content.
Second- find some php programer who can make wp plugin for your Index Drivers that will put links that point to already published posts by taking those articles URL from RSS feed that you want (you will get automatization). If you are not able to do that, than use SEO Smart Links plugin made by Vladimir Prelovac.
Third – every Index Driver site must have about page, contact page, and privacy page.
Fourth – Every index driver must be on different C class IP adress.
Fifth- this is advice: don’t use Index Drivers for direct linking to money sites. Use it only when you need to make some PR on articles that are linking money site.
