How to Sort Google / Yahoo Search Results
There is one trick I use to find listings in Google and Yahoo SERPs based on any chosen criteria:
- (optional) Set Google / Yahoo to show 100 results per page;
- Use SEOquake FireFox plugin to integrate a wealth old important data right within the SERPs;
- Sort results based on any (!) of the chosen criteria.

Here are some tips when you might find this trick useful:
- Search for youngest (and already successful!) competitors;
- Find most link-to pages (think about SITE: operator for site diagnostics);
- Find pages with highest / lowest Google PR;
- Identify listing with most powerful (linked-to) domains;
- Find pages popular at Digg or Delicious,
- You name it!

Once you’ve got that data, make a spreadsheet so you can look at all the metrics together and figure out the common denominator. Then beat that and you’ve got it in the bag!
Great post!

Thanks for this tip, Ann. I was unaware of that plugin and it seems to provide some most useful data in a very handy format. It almost allows you to guess which of these factors may be what is influencing the ranking order in particular cases.

Not a big fan of this add on. Too busy and the results don’t provide concrete value.
Thanks Ann, Very useful tip.
Google “Advanced Search” tab has options to filter search results using Date, usage rights, numeric range, and more.
Thanks Ann! I never knew it did that!
Thanks for this, it looks like it could be really informative. Will have to get it and see what it is like as it would be good to know all this information to help with SEO.
I don’t know how I feel about this add on. It seems helpful, but like one of the visitors already mentioned in the comment, google advanced search already does most of this, and the google toolbar will show the PR and everything.

I could not get the most appropriate result out of this addon. I always stick on to yahoo site explorer.
That explains why I have 500 yahoo backlinks and no google backlinks.
Google and Yahoo sorting for data have different tactics which they used, You have to build many back links if you want to sort out by search engines. Thanks for these tips
