Make Static Content Fresh by Aggregating Social Media

The following tip was provided by C. Maund-Anderson of CanadianVirtual.ca SEO Blog.

A great way to make static content fresh is to aggregate social media. Using a social media profile that you update regularly, build an RSS feed or widget out to your static page. Make sure that the time stamp from the feed gets published onto your site or page, and your newly published content is accessible by the Search Engines.

See how aggregated Tweets get picked up:

Then give Google/MSN/Yahoo/bot the heads up that you have updated your page or site via a sitemap, Webmaster Tools, or the old fashioned way, by sending a ping.

Advanced tip: Add a nofollow to any links back to your social media account, this will give your site or blog authority over your account, so long as your social account’s link profile is smaller than that of your site or blog. Social websites tend to have a lot of trust and authority, and link profiles are the lever to combat this.

Start searching for the phrases that you’ve made in recent updates to your social profile, and if done correctly, your site or blog will show up in the results!

Caveat: This works best on less competitive search queries, results may vary on highly competitive terms.

  3. This is indeed a very good tip. Not only does it keep your content fresh for Google, it also keeps your readers who are not on that particular social medium interested.

Goes to prove one thing; when you jump on the “Guest Blogger” bandwagon, you really don’t have to care about the readers of your guest post. Just get that authority juice…….
