Make Your Posts Social-Bookmarking Friendly

The following tip was provided by John Gunnar.

A lot a bookmaking services use a bookmarklet to easier save pages, and this is what you need to know:

1) Description:

A bookmarklet reads the source code on your web page in order to add information about a web site.

Therefore you need to add meta description: <meta name=”description” content=”"/>

The text you add, is the same type of text that appears as a description for the bookmarks on browsers and on bookmarks on social bookmarking sites.

2) Thumbnail

Several social bookmarking sites like twine.com, faves.com and secondbrain.com - allow a bookmark to be followed with a thumbnail. Therefore it is essential to have a logo or a small image on every page.

  6. As a secondary strategy, I recommend optimizing your RSS feed by including bigger buttons, call outs and making sure your RSS feed is easy to subscribe to. This helps make sure you retain users.

  10. This is great advice. I let readers bookmark directly from the RSS feed as well. It’s a good way to accumulate and retain readers because they don’t have to click through to your site in order to share and bookmark your post.

I will implement that soon. Also the point number 2 is for blogging only. Article directory like I have should create thumbnail to social bookmarking manually.
