More than Online Reputation: Establishing Authority in SEO

The field of SEO is similar to sports. You feel the need to dominate the game, a strong desire to beat the competition. In most sports, you have to make a name for yourself to gain respect and admiration. In boxing, for instance, you have to have that reputation to be included in the main fights. Without an established reputation, you may find it difficult to get even an undercard match.

That’s why SEO experts start every optimization process with building a reputation through a brand that catches people’s attention. It may sound senseless, but establishing authority is an integral part of your SEO career.

They say that building online reputation is part of establishing domain authority (DA). While this is true, producing great content and collaborating with other sites are significant processes, too. That means you can’t do it alone here in the field of SEO.

Guest blogging

Guest blogging is one of the most powerful SEO methods you can do. The process allows you to simultaneously do link building and establish DA and online reputation. Guest blogging using leads and techniques on high-PR and high-DA blogs helps a website gain authority. If you’re aiming for PR, you can start link building and eventually gain a high rank over time. However, if you’re establishing authority, start writing for high-DA and popular blogs.

A guest blogging website that connects hundreds of high-PR and high-DA blogs can help you develop domain authority more quickly. High-DA blogs are usually blogs that have a positive online reputation because Web users read these blogs on a daily basis. Look for blogs that place importance on SEO, Internet marketing, blogging, and Web development. In other words, establish your niche with blogs that acknowledge it. Having owners of relevant websites as your readers may encourage them to collaborate with you for SEO.

Being a regular contributor to a guest blogging site can give you the authority of being a respected writer or an expert. You can use the site to make a name for yourself and gain recognition. Once readers become familiar with your name, you can easily lead them to your own site.

Tagline

Think about what you put in your tagline. I’ve seen lots of guest bloggers fill their taglines with pointless thoughts. I know an SEO guest writer whose tagline said, “I love cycling and sweet foods and I love watching Junior Master Chef”. There is nothing wrong with being playful with your tagline, but make sure that it has something to do with your profession and the reason why you are guest blogging. This is important if you’re just starting to build up your domain authority. Do not underestimate your tagline because it is your readers’ doorway to your website. Using an insubstantial tagline might cost you readers and site traffic.

Anchor text linking

Building authority without using proper inbound links to your website is pointless. Secure your links by submitting articles to EzineArticles.com and other high-DA and high-PR sites. Though the results may take some time to be evident, it’s still a good habit to practice. In addition, carefully choosing your partner websites and regularly submitting your articles to these sites secures your traffic. It is always easier to set agreements with a friend who owns a relevant website. That way, you don’t have to adhere to strict requirements that some high-DA sites set.

The benefits of having authority

Having authority can give you a lot of benefits. Web users choose your site over others. Your site visitors link to your site, help you with SEO, and give you unsolicited respect. On a technical aspect, authoritative sites can give more power to anchored links. Google tends to favor authoritative sites that have external links on other high-authority sites. Authority empowers your link building, online reputation, and overall SEO.

Nice post, i remember a while back i write a post on DST about ‘Guest Post is more then Just link building’ i am glad to see this topic again.

Personally, i believe that guest post is the best way to build authority among the niche… not only this but this also helps you professionally… like for example when you go to the client and tell about your guest blogging efforts this build trust between you and the client.

Great post. Authority is definitely the key to attracting followers. One thing though, sites (content farms) like Ezine have been knocked down quite a bit in Google.
