Old “Dinosaur” Internet Marketing Methods that Still Work

The Internet has come a long way in the past couple decades.  Internet marketing has changed too thanks to the introduction of social media and the numerous advancements of Google. With everyone flocking to the Internet these days, it’s no wonder that more and more businesses are moving to the Internet to sell their products and services.

Ten years ago it took a lot of work to get anyone to take out their credit card and send those numbers over their dial-up modems. Therefore, a variety of interesting marketing strategies had to be used to close a sale. Some of these methods still work very well today. Here are a few of them:

Email marketing.

And I’m talking about legitimate e-mail marketing here, not the stuff you see flowing endlessly into your junk folder every day. Well-constructed, strategically planned e-mail marketing campaigns have quite a bit of power. E-mail addresses are now one the primary ways we communicate in this tech-savvy world and a newsletter or ad sprinkled with well-thought calls to action in a targeted consumer’s inbox may briefly merit their attention, or better yet: a sale.

Pay-Per-Click.

Oh sure, it’s not as popular as some of the other marketing methods out there today because of its high cost, but PPC still has quite a bit of power. Instead of working your blood, sweat and tears into getting your site to organically rank high in the SERPs, you can just fork out some money to get listed in the sponsored links section. What does this mean? Your site/ad will sometimes be seen first (or second). That’s nifty if you struggle to rank organically.

Excellent copywriting.

If you have written web content that is highly informative and incredibly persuasive, you’ll be able to sell your service or product faster than competitors who have put less emphasis on their copy. Even with more entertaining and interactive marketing methods on the rise, quality copy still essential in your marketing efforts. Remember: quality copy is an essential factor in selling your product, but low quality copywriting will scare your customers away fast.

There is no doubt that Internet marketing is here to stay. These age old methods may change a bit over time, but their core power will always remain. If you’re struggling to find an excellent way to market your own online business, maybe utilizing several of these methods will help you get that extra marketing “umph” to find more customers.

Hey! Great article! We definitely need to use all aspects of marketing and not just one or the other. They can all work together in order to provide a service to everyone and not just a select amount of people.

Though I’m not too keen on PPC, it does still work for some people.

    Cheers!

What intrigues me about these different digital marketing methods “that still work” is how different they are from each other, and how they require different talents.

In one brain hemisphere, we have Pay Per Click, which involves having a knack for metrics. You have to be able to look closely at data and make strategic decisions based on hard numbers and keyword-phrase analytics.

In the other brain hemisphere, we have brilliant copywriting, which involves using language and constructing sentences in ways that are compelling and artistic.

Today’s digital marketer has to have a very holistic brain-style in order to cover all the bases!

Old tricks, a.k.a. the Classics still work and no doubt about that. In fact, I think as more and more people are looking for “newer” methods to market, the old ones become more effective.

In fact I think the old “jedi” ways should not be abandoned. :-)

    Cheers!

There are lot of newer method when it comes to internet marketing but the old method is proven like Payper click and excellent copywriting. It is still been used by a lot of webmaster because the method is proven that it helps their traffic and sales. I don’t care if I will still use the old method if I prove that it bring me more traffic and earnings :D
