Google is the most popular search engine, and if your website ranks on Google, you will increase your overall website traffic. Unfortunately, some websites don’t know how to make their site more attractive to Google and keep it ranking high on the search engine results page (SERP).
Google is constantly changing their algorithms, which forces many websites to continually make changes in order to ensure their place on the search engine results pages isn’t lost. If you need some SEO help, the following two tips will help you Google-proof your website and continue finding success.
1. Only use white hat tactics.
There are two types of tactics you can use with SEO: white hat and black hat. White hat tactics are those that the search engines don’t mind. Black hat tactics on the other hand are those that are frowned upon by the search engines. Black hat tactics typically use some type of cheating method in order to help sites rank high on the search engines and also rank more quickly.
When implementing SEO, it’s important that you use white hat tactics, such as adding keywords and titles to your site. Black hat tactics to avoid include cloaking and keyword stuffing. Sure your site may see some quick results with these tactics, but if your site is found to use black hat tactics, Google will likely de-index your site, and your website will no longer be able to be found on the search engine.
2. Add text to your website.
No matter what type of changes Google decides to make, having content on your website will keep you safe. After all, it’s the content on your site that Google searches through in order to rank your site.
First, you want to make sure that the content on your website is relevant to your overall website. The more you can accurately describe the purpose of your website, the better chance you’ll have at landing on a SERP in front of your target audience. Make sure that you are using keywords associated with your products, services or overall theme to your website to better attract the search engines and help them rank your site more appropriately.
You also want to make sure that you break up your content appropriately. For example, if you are discussing a variety of products, be sure to give each of those products their own web page. Each page of your site can stand alone on a SERP, which means that your Contact Us page may end up on a SERP instead of your home page. Either way, your site gains traffic, so be sure that you are separating your content into respective web pages instead of placing all of your copy on one or two pages.
You also need to watch your content density. Having too much copy on one web page can actually hurt your SEO efforts, so be sure that you are placing the right amount of copy on your sites that will attract both the search engines and your audience.
It’s also a good idea to ensure that any additional files on your website, such as videos or podcasts, are also transcribed. Search engines cannot crawl through videos and podcasts, so any content you have on these files will not help your overall SEO. However, if you transcribe your multimedia files, you will provide the search engines will content to crawl through, and this can help to improve your ranking and ensure that your website is Google proof.
