The Number 1 SEO Tactic that Will Survive Every Search Engine Update
The Internet is full of supposedly powerful SEO tips that are “guaranteed” to send your site soaring to the top of search results. Some of these tips really do have merit while others are as ill advised as sticking your head into the mouth of a lion.
While it is true that there’s a whole lot to intelligent SEO, and that each piece should work together with the next, there is one single tactic that is more important and more timeless than any other: quality content.
Why Quality Content Is So Important
You’ve probably heard it a zillion times by now, but there’s a reason any SEO expert worth his or her money constantly repeats the importance of quality content. It’s true!
If you’re looking for an illustration, chew on this: When marketers discovered that the more times a keyword or phrase was included on a webpage, the more attention that page got from search engines, many of them exploited the fact. This knowledge led to an era where keyword stuffing was the norm and quality content went by the wayside.
When people had had enough of trying to find valuable information among a sea of overly “optimized” and useless content, the search engines did something about it. They began to penalize webpages lacking in value by devising a new algorithm to rate pages. This change, among others, has slowly but surely weeded out the poor content and put the more valuable content higher.
This is but one example of the search engines catching up to the less-than-ethical strategies used to superficially boost page rank. From meaningless backlinks to every other black-hat tactic you can think of, nothing survives the ever-evolving search engines forever. Nothing, that is, except quality content.
Scheming Is Useless for SEO
When you consistently produce quality content, you don’t have to worry about when the search engines are going to catch on to your schemes because you aren’t using any schemes. Your rank will ebb and flow, as will all websites, but you will ultimately not sustain much damage from new algorithms as long as you are using ethical SEO techniques and cranking out quality over quantity.
Now, all of this isn’t to say that other SEO tips are worthless; they aren’t. You should do what you can to promote your quality content and make your site as search engine friendly as possible. You should do it, however, on a foundation of excellent quality, not on a whim of the latest loophole.
In this way, your website will stand the test of time.

As an seo specialist, I am seeing a huge shift in link building, into creating fresh and new content. I am doing a lot more creation- such as micropost, blog posts, and coming up with great new ideas to help my clients over come the recent panda and penguin google updates.
I have to agree with you on this one.
It’s like the old saying that I had posted in the data center:
“if you don’t have time to do it right what makes you think you have time to do it twice!”
Its true if you are going to lure people to your site you may as well lure them with your creativity not your scheming.
I understand people want the quick buck but there is a better way, I found a few techniques that have been working all year.
I have to agree with you. The shortcut is There is No Shortcut.
When comparing my websites, my personal ones that I care the most about and publish the best content on ALWAYS outrank other test sites with less quality content.
Since there are no shortcuts, I guess the only way to look at SEO is how profitable are your keywords and are they worth your time?
Do you really want to invest the time and effort in creating great (Epic) content to serve that niche? Will the means justify the end, in other words.
If not, don’t bother. (unless you love this so much that you would do it without getting paid, of course)
I agree quality content is great, but even 100% white hat sites with tons of great quality can still be slapped in the serps by updates. I’ve seen it happen many times it’s what Google would consider collateral damage.
