While there are a lot of best practices when it comes to SEO, a single tip remains the most important. It defies all the Panda and Penguin updates, survives the booms and busts of SEO and stays on top as the best way to improve search engine result rankings: diversity. Diversity is the sign of a real business operated by real people. Copying and pasting, duplicate content and other non-diverse options scream spam.
There are a number of ways to diversify for SEO, starting with anchor text. Consider all of the links you may have in cyberspace. Let’s say your go-to phrase is “the nation’s best organic rabbit repellent.” When there are dozens, or even hundreds of URLs with that anchor text, it’s automatically going to be considered spam.
It’s equally important to diversify links. If the same tactic is used time and time again, Google’s algorithms are going to catch on. What you need are quality links with different approaches. Don’t stick to the same old thing just because it worked once.
SEO requires original content, and that extends to link building. Otherwise, it will read as spam at some point and hurt the bottom line of your site or business. You can do better than that, so it’s important to try out a few different approaches to build links.
You know that great SEO requires wholly original content with keywords naturally peppered throughout. Although that’s SEO 101, the truth is that a lot of SEO writers get burned out. This doesn’t mean you should have a high turnover rate and hire new writers every few months. Instead, encourage your writers to pursue alternative points of view.
Anyone can get into a rut when they write about the exact same thing day after day. Every writer has their own natural voice, strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes it seems like there’s only so much you can write about a hotel in Los Angeles. Focus on diversifying content by reading related blogs, news and generally approaching subjects from a new angle.
Garner New Marketing
Just like writing, it’s easy for marketing departments to fall into the same old routines. Every marketing campaign or approach needs to shake things up sometimes. If the marketing team is lagging, get them on board with SEO. Utilize their skills to find out what’s unique about the company, what should be highlighted and try to see if there are perks that haven’t been focused on before.
When it comes to SEO, diversity is the key to success. So start branching out, get new ideas and try to keep things fresh. It’s the best way to earn those top result spots!
