Many of us Internet marketers already know what Market Samurai is, for those of you that don’t you can find out more by clicking here. I don’t want to hammer on too much about the program itself as I am writing this article to discuss the competition module.
What Is The Competition Module?
The competition module is for checking the competition on certain keywords, this is great to delve in and see how many other websites are in that niche and how many competitors you will actually be up against. This is a sure fire way to see how fast you will be able to get your website in the chosen niche to #1. Without further ado, let’s begin and work on a keyword, in this case we will use “Green Leaf Tea”.
When starting the program you will arrive on the splash screen which looks like the image below, we will want to initiate a search for our keyword so go ahead and click new keyword then type in our keyword in the top box, after this push the update button.
You will then be presented with the following screen:
Leave all of the settings as is because we will need a few of them. Click on the generate results button and let the program find all of the data we will need, below is the data we will need to decide whether the competition is high or not and whether it is worth going for.
DA – This is the domain age and how long the website and domain have been in operation, sometimes going against a website that has 10 years under it’s belt is risk but there are other factors we must consider.
PR – This is of course the page rank, personally I don’t take page rank of website’s into account when weighing up the competition.
CF & CT – I ignore these factors as they are just the trust flow of the website, I do not use these at all when working out if I can beat them or not.
IC – This is the total index count of the website, sometimes this can be wrong, especially if people use tags in their pages and posts on WordPress, it treats it as double pages.
RD – This is the total number of different domains pointing to the website, basically the diversity of their back links.
RDP – This is one important factor of looking up the competition, the lower the figure here the better, the figure is the total number of different domains pointing to that specific page on the website.
BLP – This is the biggest factor I check when searching the competition, it basically tells you how many back links you will need to beat that specific website! So if the figure is 3 like it is on our results then you will need at least 20-30 to beat it, but again this is not the only factor.
What other factors do you look for?
Well, as in our example the #1 position is held by a website with just 3 back links pointing to it for that specific keyword, if you look below you will see another website with 17,000+ back links pointing to it, now why is that not #1?
It might be because the website that i #1 has the other main crucial factors in its favor, and they are:
Title – They have the main keyword “green leaf tea” within their title on the website
URL – They have the keyword in their website URL too (this is a major factor!).
Desc – They have the keyword in their website description.
Head – They have the keyword within the header of their website.
These are the huge factors that sees them snatch that number one position! As you can see the top position all of those factors above are green in market samurai, if you follow those 4 basic principles of SEO then yours will be green when it hits page one too, you then just work on link building to move up to the top position.
If you wanted to delve in further you can tick the little arrow drop down on any of those websites and basically steal their back links like this:
Click “Anchor Text Analysis” on any of these websites and this is what happens:
To the right you will see the website’s they hold links on and what anchor texts they have used, who knows you may be able to steal some backlinks! Market samurai can do a lot more things but we will cover this in another tutorial if you would like me to cover it, shoot me a message or two below if you need any help and I will get back to you asap.
