What’s in Store with YouTube’s New Look?

The YouTube team recently unleashed the video-sharing site’s new look with its fresh coat of digital paint. With more than 3 billion videos viewed every day, and hundreds of new channels from known personalities and content providers coming soon, YouTube just wanted an easier way for users to locate and keep tabs of their desired videos.

The good thing about this change is that YouTube provides a short video, giving its audience a tour on the video-sharing site’s new homepage and explaining how you can create your customizable YouTube channel.

Below are more details on YouTube’s fresh design.

New Homepage

YouTube’s new homepage makes it easier to find and follow a user’s favorite channel. On the left side, users with YouTube account can customize their YouTube channel line-up. Additionally, users can browse recommended channels, customize their homepage’s feeds, and link their Facebook or Google+ accounts. The new homepage feed is now the front and center of the video-sharing site, and users can switch between feeds by clicking on various channels on the left.

Customizable Channels

YouTube also updated the look and feel of its YouTube channels. The new channel design is made to help users find their desired videos easily. Moreover, the video-sharing site also offers various channel templates to help users with their video marketing goals.

New Overall Look

Last July, YouTube unveiled its experimental design called Cosmic Panda. Through this test run, the YouTube team listened to user feedback to improve their overall design. As a result, they’ve released a cleaner and simpler site that brings the new homepage and Channels design together. Overall, YouTube now has a consistent gray background, bigger video thumbnails, and a more streamlined watch page.

While users might take some time to be familiar with the redesigned video-sharing site, their overall reaction is very positive. As ReelSEO’s Jeremy Scott said with regards to YouTube’s new design:  “This thing is outstanding in my opinion. Simplified and slick. The red chat-balloon icon on the bottom right lets you toggle the video’s annotations on and off, and when captions are present, you’ll have another little toggle icon for turning those on and off as well. And as you can see, you can still change the video resolution or jump up to full-screen view with the click of a mouse.”

Head on to YouTube now, and start embracing the video-sharing site’s fresh look!

This artlicle neglected to mention that “Youtube’s recently madeover (sic) video channels” have drawn generally negative comments from users, and that in fact Youtube has a major rebellion on its hands. User responses posted on two separate blogs set up by Google for that purpose have been overwhelmingly against the “New Youtube,” with typical responses ranging from impassioned pleas to vituperation. Boycotts have been announced, videos opposing the changes have been posted, and, following a year which witnessed the “Arab Spring,” we may now be about to witness the Winter of Google’s Discontent.
