Which Sit Com Character Would You Trust With Your SEO?
SEO experts come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. Personally I think that anyone from any background could become familiar with this industry and make a living from it if they have the time and patience to give it a try.
However, to put my idea to the test I decided to see how some of my favourite sit com characters would get on if you trusted your website (and SEO) to them.
The Trotters – Only Fools and Horses
I reckon that Del Boy would sell you his gold standard, can’t be beat, once in a lifetime opportunity SEO package pretty easily. The problems would start when Rodney got involved on your backlinks and your articles. He has got a couple of GCSEs if I remember correctly but he does have a nasty habit of being involved in farcical situations and is likely to do your business more harm than good. Some people look on SEO companies are being a bit untrustworthy and while this usually isn’t the case I don’t reckon you would you would have much chance of getting your money back from Del Boy. Still, he might give you one of those Bulgarian video players instead of a cash refund.
Victor Meldrew – One Foot in the Grave
On the face of it Victor Meldrew has a couple of big advantages in this industry. Firstly ,as a mature man he has a lot of experience he can call on to write articles and make worthwhile blog comments. Secondly, he has a lot of spare time on his hands. The big problem is that he has a bit of a bad temper at times, doesn’t he? An SEO consultant really needs to see the customers as being very important people in the process and look after them appropriately. I reckon he would get good results for your site but you might not fancy dealing with him for too long.
Frank Spencer – Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em
Frank Spencer seemed like a really nice guy but you wouldn’t let him loose on your SEO work, would you? The long suffering Betty would have been pleased to see her husband spend more time at home but I don’t think the results would have been too impressive. I have this image of Frank sitting in front of a smoking computer while the whole of the city does dark. Your website would probably disappear completely from the internet if he got his hands on it and all he could do was put his hands to his mouth and make that little “ooh” sound of his.
Edmund Blackadder – Blackadder
If ever there was a sneaky, conniving SEO consultant who would rely on black hat tricks it is Blackadder. The third series was my favourite so it is this version of the character I can best imagine cackling away as he tries every dirty trick in the book to get you up the rankings. Once your site is de-listed and your online business ruined I can picture Baldrick turning round and saying that he has a cunning plan to fix things.
Basil Fawlty – Fawlty Towers
As long as he didn’t let the hapless Manuel loose on the article writing I reckon you could get some decent results with Fawlty, as he seemed pretty intelligent. The main problem is with his habit of getting into bizarre situations and then letting his temper get the better of him. It is hard to believe that this character only featured in a few hours worth of episodes and I fear that your SEO relationship with him wouldn’t be all that long lasting either.
You are best leaving copywriting to the experts and let your sit com favourites just make you laugh at their antics.
